How are you holding up, Dungeon Meshi Maniacs? The oysters sitting well? Not too metallic, I hope. Isn't it fun to try new things! I have gotten at least -5 emails asking, "Nih, why are you doing this? Tempting fate by cooking foods you know nothing about?" I could take the easy way out and state the obvious. A manga told me to. It would make me sound like a lunatic but it would be the truth. The bigger answer is that I love it! What could possibly go wrong, I ask ya?
Okay, I freely admit that maybe I did a poor job on the oysters. As I kept stating I have no experience with seafood. Sure, I've eaten at such top shelf restaurants like Long John Silver's but to actually cook an oyster myself? I can't say that I ever had the drive. They're bottom feeders! They suck up the ocean garbage! There's so much that could go wrong eating them ><.
Nobody wants to be curled over a toilet after dinner making deals with the Oh, God that you may never keep. Yes, I probably should have tried oysters made by someone who knew what they were doing first. Mainly for safety. Mostly to make sure I ever liked them! What's the point of this project if I wasn't willing to take some risk? I wouldn't grow as a chef and the ones and ones of faithly DMM's wouldn't have anything to glace every week. So cook the oysters it was! And you know what
Just like Tiny Tim, I did not die! I tried something new and did not die. I won't say all three dishes were great. The stew was the best of the three. I've always been a soup slime though. If you've been keeping up with this blog over the weeks I hope that if anything it's inspired you to try new things. Doesn't have to be cooking the menu from a finished manga series. Maybe start by finding a food you've never had and cooking it?
Just remember, you're not Senshi. Nobody is going to cook new things perfectly on the first try. The key that I've found is to just enjoy the process and accept what comes. Be sure to come back next week. It's a simple recipe but an ancient one! Should be fun!
