Golem Field Fresh Veggie Lunch (Whole Stewed Cabbage)

Can you feel it, Dungeon Meshi Maniacs?  That chill in the air?  Your bones getting colder?  The important thing is to not panic.  Your old friend, Nih, is here to help. And what better way to warm up the body than something from the dungeon?  Soup anyone?

HOO and may I add RAY!  I am a soup slime so I have been looking forward to this dish, DMMs.  There is nothing better to me than veggies.  While I'm not a vegetarian by any means I LOVE vegetables.  So many of my personal meals revolve around a vegetable being the main event with a meat on the side.  This isn't a "for my health" or "for the environment" thing.  I've always been a Veggies First slime!  "But, Nih, aren't the gang in a dank dungeon?  How can they get fresh veggies, you slimy weirdo?"  Good question, DMM.  After last time's oysters in armor stunt I can see you expecting some sort of wonderful vegetable homunculus.  Not quite...but really close! Give yourself a Slime Star! It's a walking garden!  Sometimes called a Golem.

Fantastic, aren't they?  The actual story of the Golem is so amazing, stepped in historical and religious symbology.  Way bigger than I can articulate so forgive me for not trying.  But looking into the Golem of Prague if you're interested.  It's the best place to start!  Golems are normally made from clay or stone. Pretty similar to the soil where I grew up which means it's not great for growing much more than tomatoes.  Luckily, these golem seem to be made of dirt!

Just look at those perfect rows!  So straight. Senshi really knows his way around a hoe.  STOP THAT! You know what I mean. Pretty smart of the self reliant dwarf.  Just turn the Golmen ON/OFF switch to OFF and take care of the garden.  Switch it to ON and:

A garden you don't actually have to tend!?  It's every backyard gardener's dream. Also, they are super cute. Who wouldn't want an eight foot dirt monster ambling around their neighborhood until harvest? A little personal information, I always try to set out some veggies each year.  I don't have what you would call "talent" or "land" but it's fun to grow what's possible.  Consider me jealous of Senshi but at least I can easily obtain any vegetable I want. See!

Here it is, late December, and I can get cabbage, carrots, potatoes, and onions.  Pretty much all the veggies I need for the soup.  And where did I obtain them?  Why the store! What a convenient place. Right, Senshi?

Up your nose with a rubber hose, you sanctimonious jerk! Well, I'm not going to let a judgemental dwarf tell me how I can live my life.  I obtained my vegetables at the store.  I also added garlic to my soup.  That's not something Senshi had.  Another difference is I used a mushroom base!

It's better than bouillon!  Says so right on the jar. Why would they lie?  What would they have to gain? Joking aside, I really love using this stuff.  Really gives the soup a nice base.  The soup itself is the easiest thing I've cooked so far.

Peel

Chop

Cover with 6 cups of stock

Soup doesn't have to be any more complex than that!  It's why we've made it since we figure out boiling vegetables was possible.  What I used there three carrots, a fourth of the cabbage, three potatoes and two cloves of garlic.  Anything beyond that is all according to your taste.  Salt levels, black pepper are great starts.  I also added Herbs de Providence, sage and rosemary.  The last two were from my garden, so are we cool again, Senshi?

You just can't please some people.  Maybe if he could take a look at everything in the pot he'd be nicer.

Let this simmer for a minimum of twenty minutes.  You at least want the potatoes to be soft.  As with any soup, the longer the better. Granted you don't want mush but you do want the flavors to meld together.  A nice tip?  If you find the broth is still a little flat try adding a shot of something tangy.  I go with rice wine vinegar but any old vinegar would do.  I've heard sour cream is a good choice!  That should round out the broth and give you a fuller flavor. Now time to spoon this up.

Mmmm. Soup time!  The verdict?

Hands down the best dish I've made so far in this project! Absolutely loved it ^^.  Another upside to soup? Most freeze well.  Made too much?  Seal it and throw it into the freezer.  You'll have access to amazing soup whenever you want it! Yes, soup really is the perfect food.

So that's it for the Whole Stewed Cabbage, DMM's.  Did it inspire you to make your own?  Like I said and showed, it's not complicated at all.  You can do it! Warm soup blessings to you all!
